On Thursday, October 11, 2012, Heron Creek Community Foundation’s Community Service Committee completed its Fall Food Drive for the benefit of North Port High School’s needy and homeless children. Foundation volunteers delivered nearly 5,000 lbs. of ready-to-eat food items to the North Port High School Pantry.

The new NPHS Principal, David Jones, took the time to personally meet and thank us, and also gave us another thank-you announcement at the next football game. He shared with us that 63% of the NPHS students receive free or reduced price meals. The generous contributions made by Heron Creek residents provide evening/weekend meals for many of these students who would otherwise go hungry.

On the behalf of the Foundation and its Board of Directors, the Community Service Committee would like to personally add our thanks to that of Mr. Jones, for the repeat generosity from the Heron Creek residents. In all, you have provided a total of more than 6.5 tons of food to the High School’s pantry.
